So you have decided to add a new member to your family. You puppy will quickly pull at your heartstrings, and, before long, you will have a valuable friend at your side who you never knew how you lived without. If you plan to have your puppy indoors, there are a few things you should consider now before you bring it home to save you stress later on down the road.
1. Cables
Puppies have incoming teeth, and, just as a baby, it can be painful for them when these teeth break through the gums. As a result, they will likely chew anything they can get their jaws on. If you have exposed cables, it is crucial that you cover them appropriately, not only for the preservation of your electronics, but also for the safety of your furry friend.
2. Toxic Plants
Your new puppy may not be the only wildlife on your property whether it be indoors or out. If you have plants, you should take the time to research them as some are poisonous to dogs including:
- Aloe
- American Holly
- Bird of Paradise
- Chamomile
- Fib
- Grapefruit
- Medicine Plant
- Onion
- Peach
- Ragwort
- Tulip
- Wisteria
Keep in mind, this list is not complete. Check listings for your specific plant at http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/dogs-plant-list.
